#LTS: The New #LSS

Everyone has experienced #LSS or Last Song Syndrome at least once in their lives. You hop in your cars, turn the radio on and listen to the top songs on the charts almost every day. Then suddenly, you unconsciously start humming a song and play in a continuous loop in your head. Sometimes, it happens in the most unexpected situation.

Take for example, you could be cleaning the house, exercising, or even working. Your brain will somehow find its way to make you remember that certain song. The reason behind this is your brain can easily memorize repeated patterns in songs.

How does LSS happen?

Based on the study published in the Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts, there are three factors that result to LSS: Pace, Unique Intervals, and Shape of the Melody.

Songs that have a more upbeat pace, tempo, or rhythm people could move to are more likely to get stuck in your head. As for the melody, those with simple structures but have rhythmic patterns are likely to get stuck.

Why not take advantage of this fact and put it to better use?

From LSS, let’s change it to LTS – Last Thought Syndrome!

What is LTS?

If your mind can play a song on repeat, then it surely can do the same for a positive thought. An affirmation continuously displayed on your subconscious mind can lead to becoming a strong belief. You can call it the Last Thought Syndrome or LTS!

There is a project called ‘ARTH’ that uses meditative art technique, which can help you achieve this goal! If you’re currently experiencing #LTS, grab your art materials and get to work!
